BRIEF 2- weeks 5 -9 -FALMOUTH UNIVERSITY
As designers it’s important for us to be clear about our creative strengths and abilities. Equally, we need to understand which areas of our practice to develop and improve upon. We are never the ‘finished article’ and are constantly learning new processes in order to do our job in the most powerful and affective ways. It’s therefore important to reflect on our skill-sets regularly and identify how we might arm ourselves with the best set of tools with which to work.
MY TASK
What approaches, technical processes and ways of working are you most confident with? What are the gaps? Where do you need to ‘upskill’ and improve your competencies? Start by engaging with the following tasks:
- Write a list of the design skills that you feel you are most proficient with.
- Write a separate list outlining the skills that you hope to improve upon. This can include ways of working, practical abilities, or simply areas of knowledge that you wish to develop.
Following this, create an informatic ‘process model’ which summarises the design skills that you currently possess, the gaps you wish to acquire and how you intend to do this. The format for this piece of work is up to you. For example, it could be a schematic, a typographic statement, a time-based narrative or a practical a tool. Choose the form of communication that best expresses your message.
